This month, one of your favorite Manchester restaurants, Vallarta, is giving you a guide on how to make these three refreshing drinks at home!

Agua Fresca

This refreshing fruit-based drink is popular in Mexico, especially during the hot summer months. Made with fresh fruit, water, and sugar, it’s a light, fruity drink perfect for sipping on while enjoying your favorite meal. Here’s what you’ll need to make the drink:

 

  • 4 cups of fresh fruit (such as watermelon, mangoes, cantaloupe, pineapple, strawberries, or cucumbers)
  • 4 cups of water
  • ½ cup of sugar (adjust to taste)
  • Juice of one lime (optional)

 

To make, blend 4 cups of fresh fruit with 4 cups of water, strain the mixture, and sweeten it with sugar to taste. Chill the agua fresca in the refrigerator until it’s cold, then serve over ice!

Paloma

Like a Margarita, the Paloma is a tequila-based cocktail made with grapefruit juice and soda water. It’s a refreshing and slightly bitter drink that pairs well with spicy dishes! Here are the ingredients you’ll need to make this cocktail (one serving):

 

  • 2 ounces of tequila of your choice
  • 1 ounce of grapefruit juice
  • ½ ounce of lime juice
  • ½ ounce simple syrup
  • Soda water

 

To make, fill a shaker with ice, then add the tequila, grapefruit juice, lime juice, and simple syrup. Shake well, then strain into a glass filled with ice. Top with soda water, stir gently, and serve!

Michelada

This popular drink is a spicy yet refreshing way to cool off on a hot day. If you like savory beverages, this one is for you! Made with beer, lime juice, hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and a Tajin rim, the Michelada pairs great with Mexican cuisine.

 

It’s important to note that this drink has many variations, and many like adding tomato juice or other personalizations. Some like to add toppings similar to how bloody marys are made (shrimp, cucumbers, peppers, bacon, etc.) So if that’s your thing, we encourage you to make this drink to your liking! Here’s one way to make a Michelada: 

 

  • One 12-ounce bottle of Mexican beer (such as Modelo or Corona)
  • 2 ounces of fresh lime juice
  • ½ teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce
  • ¼ teaspoon of hot sauce (Tobasco or other)
  • Salt or Tajin seasoning for the rim of the glass (optional)
  • Ice

 

To make, rim the glass with Tajin. Add ice, lime juice, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, and your preferred beer, then stir and enjoy! Adjust the spice level to your liking by adding more or less chili powder and hot sauce.
