And while you’re celebrating Father’s Day in Manchester with delicious Mexican food, why not learn a little about Father’s Day in Mexico? Father’s Day falls on the same day in Mexico as it does in the U.S., but the celebration looks a little different.

Let’s take a look at some of Mexico’s Father’s Day traditions.

It’s not just for dads.

In Mexico, Día del Padre doesn’t only celebrate fathers but all father figures. They honor fathers, stepfathers, older brothers, uncles, or any important men who fill fatherly roles in their lives. Family ties are very important in Mexico and Father’s Day is a day for families to gather and spend time together. It’s common for multiple generations of a family to come together to celebrate the fathers in their lives.

It involves running.

Well, in Mexico City it does, anyway. Since 1983, the annual Carrera Día del Padre 21K Bosque de Tlalpan is a race run on Father’s Day. This half marathon attracts runners from across the globe. Throughout the day, there are several races that families participate in together. One of the most popular is the Father and Son race. Father’s day is a much less energetic day here, but that’s fine by us. It’s the perfect day to swing by your favorite Manchester restaurants and enjoy your favorite Mexican foods.

And, of course, the food.

Naturally, no celebration would be complete without food! In Mexico, families kick off Father’s Day by preparing an enormous meal early in the morning that includes all of Dad’s favorite foods that the family will enjoy throughout the day. And, of course, there is dessert! Dessert usually includes Mexican chocolates or pan dulce, sweetbreads with various toppings.
